As we have said our spare time activities include being active members of the Leicestershire and Rutland LRC and are members of the ALRC national scrutineering committee. Both are licensed Motorsport UK Rally recovery operators ,senior event officials for Rally and Cross country motorsport, and safety rally radio operators.
We are based at Acresford near the Leicestershire / Derbyshire border, just off the A444, near Overseal. We are roughly 13 miles from the Curborough Sprint Track however, we're happy to travel to any location in the UK either independently or in support of other RSR units.
As a Motorsport UK (MSUK) licensed (heavy) recovery unit, we can support most types of motor sport including:
Rallies, Sprints, Hill Climbs, Comp Safari's, CCVT, RTVT, we can even provide light recovery (straight tow) for race meetings.
The Rutland Recovery unit is a 300 tdi Land Rover 110 station wagon utility, which gives us a five seat cab with much needed van storage behind. The unit has evolved from the Forest 19 radio vehicle which we have owned for many years. We carry all the specified equipment that is laid down by Motorsport UK (our governing body), this includes firefighting and first aid equipment, vehicle tools , a large selection of straps shackles and ropes.
To facilitate recovery of vehicles the unit is fitted with a 9500 Superwinch on the front and in the rear a larger capacity Superwinch Husky is used as the main recovery tool and also to power the custom built foldaway (suspend lift ) recovery crane. The 110 is fitted with heavy duty suspension and steering for durability and off-road capabilities, future modifications include rear suspension air assist and an all-wheel lift dolly set for 4wd rally cars. Because of the extra electrical power needed for winches, beacons and radio equipment the unit is fitted with two large batteries and split charging system. All modifications and fabrication work were carried out in house in the Alldrive workshops.
Operating from our Land Rover 110 300tdi Station wagon utility, Forest 19. We are a Motorsport UK licensed radio team of many years’ experience in all forms of off road motorsport and rallying. Our well-equipped unit and our mechanical know how has often been called to the aid of marshals, competitors and spectators in distress, and we are always willing to help , be it on or off road. We are both first aid trained, carry a comprehensive first aid kit and fire extinguishers.
When not out “playing” we are busy running the workshop, or planning our next old project vehicle.
RKP 766 CLASSIC LAND ROVER TRIALER
We originally built our 86” Series One trials vehicle as a launch workshop feature series for what was then the new Classic Land Rover Magazine.
Starting with a sound chassis it was then considerably strengthened for roll cage mounting points. The bulkhead was custom built from HD box section and is an integral part of the roll cage structure. (All fabrication was done by Tony Sinclair) For durability and ease of sourcing parts we have used later Series 111 axles, steering and brakes but to remain in standard class it has retained a two litre engine with standard gearbox, the engine does run a slightly bigger carb and electronic ignition.
As this vehicle was built for trials, rather than use up precious straight panels, the whole vehicle was built using panels discarded from previous restoration jobs and finished in a period shade of grey. Unfortunately due to health problems Tony has yet to compete with this, but it did very well in the 2018 ALRC Nationals with Dave Flack driving and Andrew Sinclair in the co- driver’s seat.
As part of the continuing links between AllDrive Classic 4x4 and Rescue Services Rutland, Tony and Andrew Sinclare kindly open up the garage to volunteer rescue crew from Cobalt Rescue for one weekend every year so they can do their annual mandatory Motorsport UK training and assessments. They even let them play on their trialer. See our blog for details.
